NEWS FLASH! Important update from Microsoft!! READ THIS RIGHT AWAY!!!

Microsoft has released an urgent bulletin outlining a security problem in their Windows software (ALL VERSIONS of Windows) that can allow someone else to take over your Windows PC.  (Mac users, breathe easy.)

If you have Widows XP, either Service Pack 2 or 3 (SP2 or SP3), go here to download a patch for this problem.  DO IT NOW!  You can find your service pack information by clicking the Start button at the bottom left of your screen and right-clicking My Computer.  Select properties in the drop-down box that appears and read what is on the General tab.  If you are running Windows XP without a designation of either SP2 or SP3, you need to update your PC badly.  Do that right away to SP3 (or contact me through my web site for assistance) and make sure the patch is part of your upgrade.

If you are running Windows Vista (no comment), click here to get the patch.  DO IT NOW!

If you are running Windows Vista 64-bit (you know who you are), click here to get the patch.  DO IT NOW!

For those of you running Windows server software, make sure your updates are up to date as of RIGHT NOW!

If you are running Windows ME, get off my blog!  (Or call me as soon as possible.  You need help.)  There is no patch, because Microsoft no longer supports ME, and should never have released it anyway!  Upgrade to XP (not Vista), or just recycle your PC and get another.  If you are running ME, your PC is way past its expected lifespan anyway.

In case I haven't made my self clear, whatever supported Windows operating system you are running, DOWNLOAD THE APPROPRIATE PATCH RIGHT NOW!

Don't make me repeat myself.

I lurk most of the time, but follow your advice. Your admirable bro sent me here from his blog. I just wanted to thank you---you are very good to take the trouble to help people like me and it is greatly appreciated!

what is the nature of the problem, ie, what is it that allows the takeover of one's pc. must be pretty fundamental if it goes back as far as XP?
