Windows-centrism is unacceptable! Even by Microsoft!
On behalf of all you Mac owners out there, I PROTEST (loudly)!
I get so tired of emailing sites that don't use standard web protocols and thereby ignore Mac users. My favorite site, one I use multiple times daily, is MSNBC. I like their news coverage, they have a great Technology section, and it is a free site.
They are also owned by Microsoft.
However, how much longer can Redmond, Washington continue to ignore the Mac users in the Ether? We represent 11% of the PC market and are growing quickly. We aren't just a small group anymore!
For years, I have emailed the MSNBC management about their video news. For most of those years, you couldn't view their news on a Mac. That changed about a year ago, thank goodness.
But they're at it again.
I just tried to view an interactive video regarding Ground Zero, and was locked out. It seems they support Internet Explorer (surprise!) and Firefox on Windows only. You'd think they'd get it by now.
I resent 900 pound gorillas sitting on my computer equipment. All I have is my own voice and the fact that about four or five hundred of my clients have MSNBC as their home pages and I can change that simply through an email request.
I also have this blog.
I make no requests of my clients or readers at this time, but I may at some point.
We all have to stick to our principles and have the right to be recognized or change how we do things.
Some of you have heard of Linux and open source software. Between the success of Apple, businesses beginning to look seriously at Linux, and the tepid response to Vista, Microsoft is losing market share.
Microsoft, pay attention. Your market is changing. You ignore us at your own risk.

I like the geo-/heliocentrism pun there. You are more like Phil than I thought.
They did some thing similar with Firefox, ignoring the protests over the usability of Hotmail in Firefox (only "Classic" version works). It's fixed now, but I still get layout issues sometimes.
(*'acceptible' or acceptable?)

The latter. (Oh, I see. I spelled it incorrectly in the title. I just fixed it. Thank you!)
What do you mean, "You are more like Phil than I thought"?? I'm the oldest! If anything, he's more like ME!
Actually, we grew up in a family environment where learning and language arts were encouraged. Since Phil is ten years younger than I, and knowing that everything we need to know is learned by age seven, I'm sure Phil got his earfull of the verbal intercourse between me, our middle brother Merril, and our father. We also watched a lot of movies and read a ton of books, so arcane and achaic terminology flows freely through our brains. Our sister has the gift, too. It's just that Phil has had more practice with bandying language about than the rest of us through his many writings and interactions with professionals (and reality naysayers)!
American English is a fun language, full of nuances and absurdities (as are the country's residents). I get a kick out of a phrase turned inside out and up-side down to double (and sometimes triple) its entendre. Unfortunately for the rest of the world, I began exposing my daughter all of this as soon as she could talk, and she's now a high school English teacher, torturing and training an entirely new generation. What fun!
